Highland Park Electric can help get your home or office’s electrical system up to code by ensuring all smoke detectors are properly working, and properly installed. Sometimes when work is done on your home, a new tenant moves into your building, or when you go to sell, an inspector may notice that some of your smoke detectors may not meet current code. These violations will many times pose a risk to the occupants of the building or home and need to be corrected immediately.
The law in Illinois is as stated in (425 ILCS 60/) Smoke Detector Act. Sec. 3 (a):
“Every dwelling unit or hotel shall be equipped with at least one approved smoke detector in an operating condition within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping purposes. The detector shall be installed on the ceiling and at least 6 inches from any wall, or on a wall located between 4 and 6 inches from the ceiling.”
